St Andrew’s has a children’s education program which employs fifteen teachers and an adult education program which employs five teachers. The language of instruction is English. The teachers are themselves drawn from the refugee community and the levels of training they have vary immensely. About seventy per cent of the teachers are educated at least to degree level and about forty per cent have received some teacher training, usually in their country of origin. The post holder will be leading an exciting project which aims to design and deliver quality teacher development opportunities for teachers of both children and adults and is aimed to radically alter standards at the school.
During the first school term (May – July) the trainer will observe classes, talk to teachers and students and design a training program involving both individual development plans and group training sessions which will take place over the summer break and the following two terms (September – April). During the first term you will also identify two teachers to work with more closely who will be able to run training sessions after your departure. You will also have the opportunity to provide on-the-job mentoring support to a core group of 20 teachers from all over the world, working in downtown Cairo.
