The Children’s Education Program (CEP) teaches the Sudanese curriculum in the English language. The program serves 220 students from ages 7 to 18 and employs twenty teachers from all over the world. The CEP also runs a feeding program which serves a hot meal and fruit every day and gives the opportunity for particularly vulnerable students to earn a wage by working in the kitchen.
The Adult Education Program (AEP) offers courses to improve refugees’ employment options, such as English, accounting, and computer skills. This year we are also teaching Arabic literacy, Arabic for Somali speakers, health and nutrition, conflict resolution and parenting classes. There is child care available for all AEP classes.
The Resettlement Legal Aid Project (RLAP) helps qualified refugees present themselves to the UNHCR, IOM, and national immigration agencies for permanent relocation outside of Egypt. RLAP assists all refugees without regard to religion, race, nationality, gender, or immigration status. Check out the RLAP website at www.rlap.net.
The Psychosocial Program provides trained psychosocial caseworkers that meet with people to assess the type and degree of assistance needed. The program aims to run collaboratively with RLAP, CEP, and AEP and address some of the social challenges of refugees and their family members by helping them gain access to services in their communities.
